Story:
On the stroke of midnight everything changed
A terrible force has taken hold in the Japanese village of Hanyuda. The surrounding sea has turned the colour of blood and slowly but surely the village's inhabitants are changing, becoming vile creatures, fuelled by evil.
This is the story of three days in a living nightmare. Seen through the eyes of ten characters, each embroiled in their own personal fight for survival., Siren immerses the gamer in a claustrophobic world of fear, mystery and suspense. During these three days chronology is irrelevant - episodes do not take place in sequence and the only way to understand what has happened is to witness the horrors that unfold before all ten individuals. Characters can steal the viewpoint of others in their surroundings, foreseeing danger and predicting enemies actions. But in a world of unspeakable evil and horrific visions, this extraordinary observational power could be more of a curse than a blessing.
Features:
Players can steal the viewpoint of characters and enemies in their surroundings, by using the 'Sight-Jack' system. By utilising this system, players will be able to estimate their enemies' actions and movements.
Enemy characters will join forces and exhibit group behaviour. Due to such characteristics, the enemy will call upon their comrades when they sense danger, leading the player into a desperate and deadly situation.
Non playable characters in the game have pre-assigned dialogue and reactions suited for each situation or condition. In some episodes you will have to guide these characters to safety - if they die you fail the task.
There are 78 episodes in total - the navigator takes the form of a timetable to help the player understand how each of the episodes fall in place over the course of three days. Each episode that the player will experience is not necessarily played in the order of time.
Players can use everyday items as weapons such as a wrench, knife, crowbar, hammer and an umbrella. In selected episodes a pistol and rifle are available - where players can peek through a sight, aim and then shoot just like a sniper.
The horror story was based on H.P.Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos novels - infamous for his writings of horror fiction. Other influences are derived from Japanese novels and comics, married with the dynamism of 80's horror movies.
